The Volume of #WorldCup Conversation on Twitter – USA vs. Germany

As the entire world watches over Brazil and the 2014 World Cup, here in the US it feels like there’s never been more excitement around the most popular sport in the world. The USA vs.Germany match today offers a perfect storm of social TV opportunity – it started at high noon (on the East coast), and it’s on a Thursday just about a week before the 4th of July. #Merica

Governors are giving official lunch extensions to watch the game, companies are posting photos of their office celebrations, even Hulk Hogan is getting the Hulkamaniacs fired up.

Twitter has been really pushing their involvement with the tournament this year, releasing a number of new product features designed to get people talking. So far they have introduced a dedicated World Cup hub, push notifications about games, mobile app banners, Twitter voting cards and scores/schedules right on the home feed. As expected, the conversations are flowing fast and furious – here’s a snapshot of the volume of conversation on Twitter during the first half  according to the Wayin USMNT Social Hub: alltweets   As we did with the USA-Ghana matchup, we’ll be sure to keep this post updated with new stats as they come in, usually Twitter’s data team has some great insights. Also not to be left out, the brand tweets are plentiful, and since goalie Tim Howard had to make a ton of saves for the US during the first half, Degree Men started tweeting this Dikembe Mutombo inspired finger wag GIF.
